How to Prepare for a Mobile Blood Draw: A Simple Checklist
4 min read
A little preparation goes a long way toward a quick, comfortable blood draw. Use this checklist before your phlebotomist arrives.
Have your lab order ready
Most bloodwork requires a physician's order or requisition. Keep a printed or digital copy handy, along with your photo ID and insurance card for the lab.
Check whether you need to fast
Some tests, like fasting glucose or a lipid panel, require 8 to 12 hours without food. Water is usually fine. If you're unsure, ask your doctor and book an early morning appointment so you're not fasting all day.
Drink plenty of water
Unless told otherwise, drink water the day before and the morning of your draw. Good hydration makes veins fuller and easier to find.
Wear comfortable clothing
Choose short sleeves or sleeves that roll up easily above the elbow.
Ready for a stress-free blood draw?
A certified phlebotomist can come to your home, office, or care facility. Request your appointment in minutes.
Set up a comfortable spot
- A sturdy chair with an armrest, or a table to rest your arm on
- Good lighting
- A quiet space away from pets and distractions
Tell your phlebotomist about medications
Let us know if you take blood thinners, have fainted during past draws, or have a preferred arm. Keep taking your regular medications unless your doctor says otherwise.
After your draw
Keep the bandage on for a few hours, avoid heavy lifting with that arm for the rest of the day, and enjoy a snack if you were fasting. We'll deliver your specimen to the lab, and your results go to your doctor as usual.
Skip the lab. We come to you.
